BuddyBoss is great — until your members
stop visiting it.

Without a weekly nudge, members forget the community exists. They miss the question they could have answered. They don't see the new course post. They drift. A weekly digest brings them back — but only if it's actually relevant and actually delivered.

01
Community without recap = drift

Weekly digest pulls the activity members missed back into their inbox. They see a question to answer, a member to welcome, a topic to follow — and they come back to participate.

02
Subject lines decide open rates

"Weekly digest" gets ignored. "5 new members + Sarah's gift-wrapping question" gets opened. PRO's Claude AI integration writes a fresh, specific subject every send.

03
Deliverability beats batch size

10 emails per 30 seconds keeps shared-hosting and TransIP rate limits happy. PRO routes through Gravity SMTP for per-recipient delivery logs.

04
Unsubscribe should just work

RFC 8058 one-click unsubscribe with per-user tokens. Gmail and iOS Mail show the unsubscribe button in the header. No reply-to-unsubscribe gymnastics.

Onboarding wizard, then forget about it.

Three actions, then the digest runs itself every week.

1

4-step wizard

Set the from-name, the email subject, the day + time, and send a test email to yourself. Total time: 90 seconds.

From-name + subjectDay + timeTest send
2

Cron + queue

Every week (or biweekly in PRO) the cron fires, the activity collector pulls the last 7 days, the queue batches sends 10 emails every 30 seconds. Progress polled in admin.

Add intelligence (PRO)

Turn on Claude AI subject generation, target a specific BuddyBoss group, route through Gravity SMTP for delivery tracking, customise the branding.

Free covers the weekly workflow.
PRO turns it into a retention engine.

No upsell tax on basic functionality — every standard activity type, the queue, unsubscribe, send-now, all in the free version.

Weekly digest (free)

The core feature, no limits.

  • 6 default activity types — status updates, members, group joins, group creations, forum topics, replies
  • Activity titles — group post and blog post titles shown as bold headings in the email
  • WP mail sender — works with any SMTP plugin
  • All WP users as recipients
  • Configurable — day, time, subject, from-name

Reliable sending (free)

Queue + batch, not blast.

  • Queue store in custom DB tables
  • Batch of 10 every 30 seconds — respects shared-host rate limits
  • Progress polling in admin — see how many sent / queued / failed
  • History tab — last 50 digest runs with date, subject, sent / failed counts and a rendered view of the exact email sent
  • Mutex lock prevents concurrent batches stepping on each other

RFC 8058 unsubscribe (free)

Gmail's one-click button.

  • Per-user token — stable across emails, never expires
  • One-click unsubscribe header — Gmail and iOS Mail show the button
  • Opt-out tracking — unsubscribed users are auto-excluded from future digests

Biweekly + group targeting (PRO)

For tighter or VIP cadences.

  • Every 14 days instead of weekly
  • BuddyBoss group targeting — send only to members of one group
  • Run multiple cadences — weekly for everyone, biweekly for paying members

Gravity SMTP + branding (PRO)

Looks like your community, ships like a pro.

  • Gravity SMTP delivery — per-recipient logs + bounce tracking
  • Brand color + accent color + heading font
  • Intro message with {first_name} / {full_name} placeholders
  • Custom post types alongside BuddyBoss activity

Claude AI subject lines (PRO)

Open rates beat "Weekly Digest".

  • Claude Sonnet reads each week's activity and writes a fresh subject
  • Specific, not generic — "5 new members + Sarah's question"
  • Falls back silently to your static subject if Claude is unreachable
  • Your own API key — cost stays under your control
  • Demo content preview — see the digest with realistic data before your community has any

BuddyBoss or BuddyPress required. Optional Claude.

The digest reads its activity from BuddyBoss Platform or BuddyPress — without one of those plugins active there's nothing to email. Beyond that, free works with any SMTP plugin you already have; PRO adds the OCW License Server for updates and (optionally) your own Claude API key for AI subjects.

What people usually want to know.

Answers to the questions I get most often.

Is this an official BuddyBoss plugin?

No. This is an independent third-party add-on developed and maintained entirely by Adviespraktijk OCW. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by BuddyBoss LLC. "BuddyBoss" is a trademark of BuddyBoss LLC, used here purely to describe what this add-on integrates with.

Does it work without BuddyBoss installed?

No. The digest reads the activity stream from BuddyBoss Platform or BuddyPress — without one of those plugins there is no activity to collect and the emails would be empty. BuddyPress is the free fork that BuddyBoss Platform is built on; both expose the same bp_* function API, so the plugin works with either. An admin notice warns you when neither is active and the cron is skipped automatically.

Will Claude cost me a lot?

PRO uses your own Anthropic API key. A typical weekly subject-line generation uses ~200 tokens — fractions of a cent. Even with 4 weekly sends per month, monthly cost is under €0.10.

What happens if my license expires?

The free version's weekly digest continues to send indefinitely. Only the PRO features (biweekly, group targeting, Gravity SMTP, branding, AI subjects) become unavailable. Renewing re-activates everything where it was — your saved options are kept in the DB.

Will the queue overload my server?

No. Batch processing is throttled to 10 emails per 30 seconds by default — well within shared-hosting and TransIP rate limits. Larger communities just take proportionally longer to send.

Can I move a PRO license to another domain?

Yes. Clear the key on the old site (triggers /deactivate on the license server) and enter it on the new site. Single Site = 1 active domain at a time.

Do my members need to be logged in to read the digest?

No — the email itself is always readable without logging in. The digest is plain HTML sent directly to each recipient's inbox; the content is pre-rendered and does not depend on their login status. The View → links inside the email point to BuddyBoss pages, which typically do require login. Public blog posts linked in the digest are accessible without login.

Does the digest include content from private or hidden groups?

Never. Because every recipient gets the same email regardless of group membership, including private group content would leak it to non-members. The plugin hard-codes this protection: show_hidden = false in the query and a PHP filter that drops any activity tied to a non-public group — even if an admin tries to override it in settings.

Questions about the plugin?

Or you'd like a feature added — I'd love to hear it. I always reply personally.
